Leopard's Spots
review 1: The 9th book in the Leopard’s Spots series, this was my first encounter with this series and author. Nischal and his brother Sabin are snow leopard shifters living a fairly isolated existence in Nepal. When they are captured and enslaved, the two are kept drugged to stop their shifting, and are used for entertainment. When a red-haired Preston catches Nischal’s eye, the story started to develop a sense of tension and this added some curiosity for me. Preston is unaware of shifters, and Nischal is meant to be a sheltered and rather naïve young man, unaware of the human world. Their introduction was cleverly planned and detailed: Preston is clever and funny and the puzzlement from Nischal is coming off him in waves. The two need to come to some sort of understanding ... moreof what all of their feelings and compulsions mean. An interesting twist to the meeting your mate, this section was uniquely crafted. Unfortunately, after that point, this story lost its footing for me, with too many inconsistencies that left me questioning. Sadly, the focus on Nischal’s naivete, virginity and lack of how the human world works was at total odds with his ability to please Preston sexually, and his almost lackluster response to and adoption of a submissive’s role and behavior. Additional large holes in the plot: important conclusions left unanswered, lack of immediacy to find Preston’s brother, or the people who are capturing and enslaving the snow leopards just kept this story at a passable read. Perhaps readers more familiar with the world and the other books in this series would appreciate it more than I did, but it didn’t meet my expectations set in the premise, and that saddens me. I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
review 2: Yay finally catching up on this series. First off, I really liked the veering off from the same family storyline. Something new and different to add to the mix. I did find this.. awkward? at times.. Tracking down the snow leopard exhibit and thinking he can 'handle' alone time with questionable characters is just poor thinking. On the other side though, I thought it was interesting that even being human that there is some roughness wanted and given. This was not mentioned in previous books since that pairing was Marybeth's daughter/son-in law.I found this to be a positive change in the storyline and am looking forward to who may come next. less
