review 1: Ever wonder what happens in one day all around the world. How kids from other countries live their day to day. Well, in forty-eight pages and 63 photographs Barbara Kerley shows a day in children’ lives from all over the world. In this National Geographic informational book filled with photograph the author takes us from dawn to sunset. She shows us what these kid do from when they wake up, what they eat for breakfast, how they get to school, what they do in school, what they do after school, how they spend time with their families, and last how they get ready for bed. These 63 photographs are accompanied by only 25 sentences. It is more of a visual understanding. These photographs show the difference between the kids lives and how they live day to day. This is a great bo... moreok for preschool age children because they do not need to read the text to understand or appreciate the photographs. This book can also be a way to start a conversation about the world. Children can see the difference, but they can also see some similarities between the photographs and their own lives. Children can also become aware that there is more out in the world than what they are exposed to. School aged kids can also benefit from this book. They can use this book to learn about the world. What a better way for kids to learn about the world than learning about other kids around the world.I really liked this book because it uses real photographs. There is only the camera lens between the reader and what’s going on in each picture. It is not like picture books where things are seen through the eyes of the illustrator. It’s like you are seeing the world through your own eyes.
review 2: Barbara Kerley celebrates the quotidian events that take place around the world. Despite our different countries, languages, and cultures, children all over the world share many of the same activities, such as waking up, eating breakfast, and spending time with family. This book helps children take a global perspective and gives them a new lens in which to explore new cultures. The end notes provide additional information about the countries highlighted in the book, and provide a stepping stone for extending learning through research and reference skills. less

This reminds me of the Ann Morris books that I love and that are now falling apart and out-of-print.
