review 2: One and a half punctuation-deprived stars.Totally got suckered into this by the ending of the first one.
... moreMistake. You would think the author might have learned something between books one and two, but you would be wrong. Not a single grammar or punctuation class was taken between books one and two. What you will find in Dark Brother 2 is the continuation of Jagger and Willow's story. Angel/Ava and Ace/Jenny are there as window dressing as well, oh and a token gay friend who says "girl" a lot.You will also find:More childish dialogue.More flimsy storyline.More TTSL behavior from the heroine. I mean seriously how many times do they have to tell you NOT TO GO OUT ALONE?More spelling errors. The highlights:People are out to capture Willow and turn her into some sort of sex slave (I guess? More weak plotting so it's hard to say) but why don't we get drunk and walk around half naked without a care in the world!Jagger humiliates Willow horribly in front of everyone and then tries to justify it. He freaks out and makes a mountain out of a molehill, then decides to air all her dirty secrets basically as revenge. Made him very unlikeable.Lots of stuff happens that makes no sense: Willow is wearing an APRON, yet somehow Aunt Mary gets a gander at all the scars on Willow's stomach. Okay. While we're on the topic of Aunt Mary, she's a wee bit over the top. After the ex-wife (can't be bothered to remember her name) sends the text messages no one can figure out what they mean? Really? I thought it was kind of self-explainatory.Jagger is supposedly worried about Willow's mental health, but he stops at a bar to get drunk instead of coming home to check on her. I will say that there was one moment that made me a little misty-eyed when Willow was struggling with her self-harm issues. The author should have explored that more. It's the only part of the story with any emotion or depth. Since this consisted of about one and a half paragraphs, I can't give it two stars when the rest of the book was so bad. There's definitely some moments towards the end where I felt the author's judgmental, preachy voice was coming out of Willow's mouth, when she is commenting on certain types of relationships. I don't know. Willow is a pretty weak, messed up person herself with no job, goals or intelligence. So her passing judgment on other people was pretty funny. This ended on another mega-cliffhanger and I've decided here is where I get off the madness of this ride. I can't endure any more of this nonsese. Let me know when the author hires a professional editor and maybe I'll try giving it a go again. I have to wonder at all these people proclaiming this a *great* series. Have they read actual books before? less
