review 1: I really waivered on giving this a 2 star or a 3 star review. Partially - I wanted to give it no stars. Partially - I think perhaps the story, and its originality, warranted 3.5 stars. I opted to give it 3 because something compelled me to continue on with the story, despite the nearly 600 pages and the fact that I mainly wanted to throw it out the window. Overall, the story was a 3 star story and the writing was negative stars.At first, I thought this would be right up my alley - historical fiction about a strong willed girl - hooray! There's even an animal rights component - double hooray! However - as the book dragged on, and I encountered scentences like, "I had to stop to admire my baby", I just - couldn't with it. If this wasn't supposed to be a book geared tow... moreard 10 year old girls, it certainly read like one. Even though I had been excited for a light, fluffy read - this may have been a little much, with the girls nearly fainting and being overcome with passion. Oy.But the story was a good one, perhaps long winded, but good. However, I wouldn't recommend it.
review 2: Tuscan Rose was a refreshing, pretty take of Florence in WWII. Rose, the heroine, was particularly compelling and sympathetic. And yet, she remained a bit aloof throughout the tale. I enjoyed the reading, and appreciated the author's attention to small details of the surroundings. But details as to plot points were a bit lacking. I wish the story had been a little more fully developed. Likewise the supporting cast of characters. A little more thorough development would make the story beguiling. less
