review 1: Belinda Bauer is not new to me having read Rubberneckers and have Finders Keepers in my To Read pile. I didn't particularly like the title but that is the only negative I can come up with. The West Country setting and the descriptions of the locations through to the characters and the plotlines were all great. I had only just finished a book which I gave the maximum rating to and then another one comes along almost immediately. I did not want this story to end which is always a sign that the book is really good. I liked the idea of having a child as one of the main characters and seeing it very much from her young 10 year old eyes. It didn't matter that you could guess who the perpetrator is from a relatively early stage - the author gives this away about half way through ... moreanyway. A lot of the characters are likeable (with an obvious exception of course) and there is an element of humour injected by one of the police officers involved. Another aspect that I liked was the cover of the book, where at a certain angle, in a certain light, a crucial tool of the murderer is revealed. "Every killer has to start somewhere". So, what would I change - absolutely nothing. Excellent.
review 2: A new book by Belinda Bauer and I am a fan of her writings. This storyline started out slow introducing the Trick family and the issues they are having since John Trick lost his job and times are tough on all of them. Also, other characters in the town of Limeburn are introduced, including the police investigators. Huh, where's the mystery/suspense/thriller part of this book? And that slow reveal becomes the brillance of this book. I began to 'feel' that something wasn't quite right but didn't know for sure and since this is told through Ruby Trick, a 10 year old, not all becomes clear until about half way through. And then you have a terrific mystery/suspense/thriller. less

Very good read slightly spoilt by a rushed ending. But still very worth reading.
