review 1: I always find interesting to read books that are set in places where I've been or where I've visited so this book, which starts out in DC, drew me in immediately. However, as much as I expected to like this book, I found it fundamentally flawed. The 2 self-absorbed characters who dominate the story are responsible for a tragic accident and each of them struggle to keep their lives on track while trying to deal with the guilt that follows them after the accident. I found the book to be frustrating because of some obvious omissions--like the lives they potentially ruined by letting someone else take the blame for their actions (which they finally lamely acknowledge in the last few pages) and the very bazaar places that the book eventually leads the reader. It eventually l... moreeads off to a strange sort of surreal mind exploration in an obscure cave in a desert. Ugh...I made it to the end of the book but just barely. I do not recommend this book.
review 2: I was so caught up in this novel that I nearly missed a flight. Adam and Thomas were best friends in junior high until they are torn apart by Adam's rise in the complicated statuses of teenagers as well as a tragedy caused by a mistake the two made. Adam moves on to an Ivy League school and is now floundering as an adult when he is approached by Thomas' mother who begs Adam to rescue Thomas. Adam finally reluctantly agrees to look for Thomas in India where he undergoes numerous trials. less

Has anyone else read this? I want to discuss. Also compare to "Perfect."

2 1/2 - 3 stars. I hated the ending, but the rest was quite good.
