review 1: I was really excited to read this book because Edisto Island is basically my favorite place on earth. And, it was fun to have familiar locales woven into the story between Edisto, Charleston, and NYC. But, I gave this an 'OK' rating because the protagonist is pretty annoying. Her storyline with her fiance was downright silly and unbelievable, especially at the end of the book, and she was so self-centered that she was hard to like. Her mother, crazy aunt (doesn't every Southern story have one? and, rightfully so), and half-siblings were lovely and rich characters and made the book enjoyable. Good beach read, I'd say.
review 2: Tells the story of a dysfunctional, fractured, hurting family and how they coped with betrayal and emotional pain. The main charact
... moreer, Julia, experienced a major derailment in her life not once, but twice. The first time, she left it all behind and built a new life for herself in a big city, far away from home and hurtful memories. The second time involved coming back home to Edisto to ultimately fulfill her destiny. Anger, bitterness and resentment, gave way to forgiveness, grace, and finally hope and joy. This book was filled with well-developed characters and story lines. A very enjoyable and satisfying read ! I received this book from a GoodReads, First Reads giveaway. less
