review 2: I feel the same way about Fables Volume 19 much the same way I feel about A Dance with Dragons and A Feast for Crows. It's content maybe important for later story lines, but on its own I cannot enjoy them. Fables has been one of my favorite fantasy series for years. It's simply one of the most charming things I have ever read, rivaling even the Harry Potter series. Usually, if there is something in Fables which throws me off, it's quickly fixed in another volume. The villain in this, a long lost potential husband of Snow White, comes out of nowhere. Now he may be from the original fable, but he feels like a villain created for the sake of drama. Mr. Dark was a great villain, Gepetto was a fantastic villain, this new guy? I just don't understand. Snow White was betrothed to a guy centuries ago, and now he wants her back. Why? What's the point? Why does this character exist? The only reason I can think of is to get rid of Bigby who "dies" in this volume. I'm certain he will return. It's almost as if this whole arc was concocted to get Bigby out of the way so he's not there to save everyone later on. If that's the case then I'm fine with it... for now I'm confused. Maybe volume 20 will make me understand. If you're reading this by chance and you haven't read Fables GO READ IT RIGHT NOW. It's a fantastic series that takes a ridiculous concept and turns it into something dark, realistic, and utterly magical. less
