review 1: The book Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori is, in one word, AMAZING! It has everything; a secret identity (sort of :), comedy, those "awwwwww!" moments, those "AHA!" moments, those very suspenseful moments everything needs, devil twins, a mini time bomb, a silent samurai, the devil himself (in the form of the vice president), an idiot president, a monotone girl pretending to be a boy so that she can work to pay back 8 million yen, and a huge school full of rich people. Do you see what I mean? The plot starts with Haruhi Fujioka, a first year at Ouran, trying to find a quiet spot in the school. She stumbles upon a beautiful group who call themselves the Host Club, then accidentally breaks a really expensive vase. The intuitive commoner has to face life with the ri... morechest, most popular boys in the school. Things get kind of out of whack when Tamaki, the host club leader, finds out she is really a girl after thinking she was a boy for the entire first chapter. This variety show is also in anime, but the problem with that is that 1) it is not nearly as long and 2) it never concludes the actual story. My favorite part is the end (which I can't tell you about) where everything ends. It's too funny! There are many funny moments, but the best one was when the twins are fighting (chapter 5) and when Hunny, the lolita of the place, gets "cursed" by the Black Magic Club's "queen". It's all too much for me to describe in one review, so what I should do is make a review of each one, but I'll do that later! The characters are as told: President Tamaki Suoh, the son of the chairman of the school (spoiler alert), Vice President Kyoya Otori, the son of prestiged hospital and resort owner, Twins Hikaru and Kaoru Hiitachin, sons of a fashion designer, Mitzkuni Haninozuka (Hunny) and Takashi Morinozuka(Mori), the lolita/stoic pair who's families are known for their martial arts, and Haruhi Fujioka, the commoner with a lot of nerve whose dad is a cross-dresser and who got into Ouran on a scholarship. The group goes through lots of ups and downs, and half of them have a huge crush on Haruhi (the idiot group of Tamaki, Hikaru, and Kaoru). They all got sort of messed up when they were kids; Haruhi's mom died when she was 6 or 7, Tamaki was in France with his mother until he was 14, Kyoya's life was ruled by trying to shine over his two older brothers, the twins stuck together for forever, Hunny and Mori had been together forever and Hunny was not allowed to eat sweets or hold his stuffed animal when he was younger (impossible for him), but they all connected through the Host club. Other side people that appeared were: president of the Black Magic Club Nekozawa, French girl Renge who was in love with Kyoya for the longest time, so she just moved to Japan and started going to Ouran, Mei, Haruhi's friend who idolized the twin's mother and is very scary (she is called a keba because of how much makeup she wears), the president of 1A (for Haruhi, Hikaru, and Kaoru, 10th graders), Ranka-san (Haruhi's father), and much more. I will do separate reviews for each chapter so that I can reveal my favorite parts, but the entire series is the best ever, so I thought I would do one for all of them in one. My recommendations go to anyone who loves comedy and chic-flics, but there is humor for everyone in there. Half of the time, the humor seems to be for guys. Just know this is an awesome manga (with an anime), but can somebody please tell Bisco Hatori that it is imperative that he insist that they make a 2nd season with everything else that the first season missed. Note: The reason I wrote this review 2 weeks after I read this was very simple: I was in a "just finished the best series ever" blues. I didn't know what to do with my life (literally; I didn't read anything else besides Ouran for that entire time; I was really depressed). Someone should give me Bisco's email so I can all-caps for a small bit then recommend making more books on something, anything maybe as good as Ouran (ha, no). Afterthought: If this was real life, I would have the most confusing of lives. Tamakis' would rule the world with devil Kyoyas; basically saying we would all live a good, but very short life (due to insanity).
review 2: Just when we all though high school was rough, try being a poor person attending a rich academy where the guys and girls have way too much time on their hands. Haruhi, a scholarship student, attends Ouran High School Academy in hopes of achieving a top knotch education. However, Haruhi has trouble fitting in since she does not care for frivolity, fashion, or being popular. One day, while trying to find a quiet place to stumbles upon the Music Room, which was supposedly abandoned, but is actually teh headquarters of the Ouran High School Host Club, where six gorgeous boys are paid to entertain the ladies of the school. The moment Haruhi realizes that she is in the wrong place, the boys unleash their charm, which, leads to a misunderstanding and an expensive accident; while tryin to escape, Haruhi breaks a very expensive vase and is in debt to the Host Club. In order to pay her debt off, she is forced to become their errand dog. Unfortunately, when the boys find out she is actually a girl, who makes a rather cute boy, she is now the newest host in the Ouran High School Host Club. 'Tweens will this story since it is packed with humor, love, outrageous schemes, and wonderful lessons that make all of us unique and special. less
