review 1: Fascinatingly brilliant, this book combines aspects of wordless graphic novel with minimal, fragmented text typically separated from the pictures. Thus the reader is responsible for connecting the fairytale motifs with the basic shapes of the illustrations to create the story. This is further complicated by the garish colors and dotted textures of the illustrations but then is extremely satisfying when one puts together the serial story.
review 2: Maybe I would have liked this when I was younger...in fact, I suspect I would have. But when I read it today, I did not enjoy it. Too long to be a picture book...not enough substance to be a chapter book. Definitely not an early reader. It's hard to categorize. But I think some elementary school age kids will like it.... more Little kids might like it because it is think, but probably not for the story. less
