review 1: In the childhood book I am Shark, Shark had no fears because he is to awesome to be scared of anything. He fears nothing but everyone fears him. He has two friends a crab and a fish and throughout the story they try and find something he is scared of but he convinces both the crab and fish nothing scares him. Until it comes to spiders and the crab and fish find that the only fear shark has is of spiders. Shark finally admits to being scared of spiders and find out that crab and fish fear sharks. This book is very humorous which I think makes it memorable and a book that a child would want to continue reading. Finding out that after the shark has spent all day with crab and fish that they fear sharks and he is shark will make children want to laugh. The illustrations and th... moree text go hand in hand when the text is emphasized or enlarged you can see in the characters facial expressions they are expressing those thoughts that are expressed in the text. The message in the story that it is okay to have a fear and to admit it is presented in a very good way, it is hidden in the story but also easily seen. I think sometimes children want to seem cool, like shark so won’t want to admit fears. Shark tries to prove how awesome he is because he has no fears, but everyone has fears and its okay.
review 2: I thought the story was cute and that the artwork was nice, but the book had no real payoff that was related to the story being told. The primary story was about a young shark who didn't want to be seen as afraid of anything, although he clearly had one specific fear. The problem was that the payoff was that the other sea creatures shouldn't be afraid of sharks, which is doubly confusing. First, because that had nothing to do with the story, and second, because their fear of sharks is quite reasonable, since all the creatures in question were potential Shark Chow at a moment's notice.I think the author was trying to say that just because someone is big, tough and vocally brave, there's no reason to be afraid of them, but I'm not sure, because that doesn't make any sense either.Or, the author could have been trying to say that everyone is afraid of something, and that someone else's fears may not be scary to us. That would be okay, but it still didn't pay off within the story. So, this is a good story, and kids who like sharks will probably enjoy it, but it could have been better. less
