New York: Disney Hyperion BooksPicture Book SoakThis book is about a dinosaur who goes to school and goes against everything that students would typically do when they go to school such as making friends, crafts, etc. The moral of the book is to learn about cleaning up and helping others. This could be used in the classroom to teach about helping others in the class.The illustrations in the book are somewhat chaotic but would most likely draw the attention of a child. Personally, this is not a book I would prefer to use in the classroom. It could be a good tool, but I feel there are better ways to get the same idea across.
review 2: This series is so cute, and this title adds to the fun without being repetitive. It uses ... morethe same bold colors and black outlines which draw the reader’s eye to the action, and it uses the same fun, repetitive rhythm. And, students need no invitation to participate in the “Roarrr!” I love the surprised faces when it is time to clean up, and the movable eyes he put on his craft. I also like that Shea used photographs to show the food, and how a face could be made to make eating a sandwich fun. This section of the book reminded me of “I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato” by Child. Fans of this series will love making up their own challenges as they learn how to use “vs.” Without revealing the title, a walk-through the book will quickly reveal the topic of Dinosaur’s challenge as being a school. How far children’s books have come from the old, obvious didactic tales to these fun books with messages and lessons presented with humor. It’s interesting to me that so many books use dinosaurs as the vehicle for today’s lessons. less
