review 1: While the writing style is not the best, the author makes up for it by providing a very fast paced edge of your seat story. The characters are pretty basic. You wont find a long Stephen King type description of the town & characters. What you will find is one night filled with terror & the will to survive no matter what.If you find the very beginning a bit dull, don't worry. It picks up quickly & goes full speed for the remainder of the book.'The Dummy Line' is clean enough to be a book for young adults. Yes there is violence & some language but seriously compared to some of the young adult books I've read, this is tame.If you have the time, you could easily finish this within a day. Reading it almost feels like watching a movie.

... morelers out in the woods. They stumble upon a boy and his date in a truck. They beat up the guy into a comatose state, and the girl flees. They stumble upon a father who's taking his daughter turkey hunting. They go after the girls. The father, who is a lot smarter than they are, takes defensive actions. For leverage, the drug dealers decide to kidnap his wife back in town. The authorities in this quiet little town are scratching their heads. They've got some dead bodies in the woods, a missing girlfriend, and a kidnap victim. They're pretty sure the father is behind all the carnage. A humorous thread throughout the book is the authorities trying to figure out how or whether everything is connected. What can go wrong does go wrong. While they're doing their figuring, the father is fleeing for his life while protecting the girls. This is a nice debut novel. I enjoyed the author's next novel Moon Underfoot, also. Both novels are identified as Jake Crosby thrillers. The father is Jake. less
