review 1: This book did not really capture my attention like the first six books. Xandra needs a a vacation/honeymoon with Kallen to recharge her battery. But true Xandra style, there is no such thing as taking a break when you have that much power, and entities want you dead. She goes to Hawaii, where she almost kills Kallen with a volcano. They go somewhere else where they scare the crap out of a older couple, and finally ends up in Egypt where she meets a Eliana. A human who has been infused with the essence of the god Re. I personally didn't think Eliana was as impressive as Lamer was trying to impress that she is. Compared to Xandra and Kallen... come on now. Through the essence of Re she can control the elements, can heal, and is stronger. The most impressive thing s... morehe did was holding tons of water in a typhoon. But that is just me. Anyway, before Xandra and Kallen leaves fairy, Xandra learns B... (the archangel who Xandra battle with in the last book when she was in Razeil body. Can't remember his name) is trying/plotting to get even with her. Poor angel’s ego is bruised. Also while in Egypt, Xandra and Kallen helps an agent gets his family back from a mobster.I had several issues with this book. #1 the book picks up almost exactly where the other one left off. I like it when there has been a month or several in between. Maybe during that time she could have had her much needed relaxation, just in time to face the next disaster. #2 I was very much interested in seeing how Dadga reacted to Xandra buying him a present, and if Kallens grandma "friend" was still intact when they returned home. #3 The witches that met them in the streets, she didn't even let them really get anything out of their mouths before she and Eliana started slinging power. I understand they were in a bit of a hurry, but that whole scene was hurried. But on the flip side I enjoyed the part of Kallen and Xandra flipping the car and smacking them with a towel. #4 The time they spent in the building trying to save the agents family. I think all three of them forgot they were magical beings. They wanted to show off their powers at the end to scare them, why didn't they show them off to save the family. Who in the hell is going to run and dodge bullets, when you can create an impenetrable barrier. Furthermore, why the hell did Kallen let the little girl hit her head, he could have cushioned it. What exactly were the bad guys going to do about it? #5 And OH MY GAWD! All the fricking sex. I'm not hating on them, but jeez, enough already. Nobody is that horny, magical or not. The story was a lot better before they discovered the wonders of a orgasm. Don't get me wrong. I love Xandra, Kallen, Isla, and everyone else (with the exception of ghost mom and dad). I loved Xandra snarky comments, and foot in mouth syndrome. I love Kallen's ability to tolerate her ability to get into all kinds of trouble with that mouth of hers. I think they mistreat Keagan quite a bit, but oh well. The first six novels were OH MY GAWD AMAZING, and then....Idk what happened. I am not going to stop reading the series because of this little hiccup. Every book can't be a hit. I still want to read about Xandra's magical journey as she finds herself and purpose. I would also like more of a back story on Isla and Dadga (HINT HINT) lol.
review 2: Xandra has the auspicious honour of being unique in the supernatural world and extremely powerful so going up against an archangel should be a piece of cake right - not exactly. This book continues where Kallen and Xandra are now right hand-fasted (married in our speak) and looking forward to a honeymoon so they can recharge their batteries after the last adventure. Seeking some peace and quiet turns into a game of hide and seek where Xandra has to fight for her life and she makes some powerful allies along the way. She still has "foot in mouth" problems but that is part of her charm and still getting into heaps of trouble along the way. This author never fails to deliver a book that is fast paced and very entertaining with heaps of action and romance tossed in. less
