review 1: "Fablehaven" is one of the best series of books I have ever read...and I read A LOT. The characters are so well-drawn that you get to know each one quite well. The writing style is so enjoyable and easy to read. Sometimes the action is non-stop. Other times the characters slow down an "smell the roses" and you get to enjoy the many species of the magical world the siblings are adventuring in. I absolutely love Seth. He is a young boy who causes so much mischief that his family and the sanctuary of Fablehaven itself are often very nearly destroyed. His besties, Doren and Newell, two satyrs who are always up to no good, are hilarious and pretty much always in trouble. There are so many adventures, mini-adventures and unexpected happenings that I've read the entire se... moreries three times and still enjoy the hijinks. There are also many deeply dangerous battles which require the children to grow up on the run. The growth of the siblings can be followed from their innocent first exposure to the world of magic to their great increase in powers and judgment. This is a series young people are sure to enjoy, but, like "Harry Potter," has much that adults can also enjoy.
review 2: The characters were wonderful. Who wouldn't want to visit their grandparents and discover that all those creatures purported to be fictional were actually real? A bit of the child has to exist in the grown up for adults to enjoy fantasy, but Mull is a wonderful story teller and with the ability to suspend belief. All you have to do is enjoy the quest that these children take to preserve a world some of us would enjoy were it real. Take a chance! less
