review 1: I love greek mythology; I think it's fascinating. I enjoy reading different takes, modern retellings, etc. The Shadow Prince was a fun, engrossing read. This is the story of Hayden Lord, from Hades, who has been sent above ground to find & return with his Boon. Of course, she's no ordinary girl and nobody bothers to explain to him the significance of this particular girl. Daphne has a musical gift, an overprotective mother, a mostly non-existent father and feels trapped in her small town. When her dad swoops in and takes her off to Olympus High and their amazing music program, she's grateful for the opportunity to pursue her musical dreams. Enter Hayden. Add in mysterious deaths, missing girls and a pattern for weirdness and things start to get intense. I liked the main ch... morearacters and the supporting ones. There was good character growth, the story flowed pretty well and wasn't overly predictable. No insta-love here, or obvious love triangle. Tho there was some chemistry, only one toe-curling kiss transpired, so the (clean) romance aspect was minimal. Not that I'm looking for smut, I totally appreciate the clean romance, but I was hoping for a few more spark-y scenes between Hayden & Daphne. Maybe in the next book . . . I was glad that Daphne tried to be level-headed and eventually stopped pushing her dad away. Hayden learned to look at a bigger picture and stand up to his dad. Glad the ending wasn't a total cliffhanger and am looking forward to the next book and hopefully lots more answers. Here's to hoping it's not your average Second, since the relationship building was slower in the First than is typical for a trilogy in this genre.
review 2: Haden Lord, the disgraced prince of the Underrealm, has been sent to the mortal world to entice a girl into returning with him to the land of the dead. Posing as a student at Olympus Hills High—a haven for children of the rich and famous—Haden must single out the one girl rumored to be able to restore immortality to his race.Daphne Raines has dreams much bigger than her tiny southern Utah town, so when her rock star dad suddenly reappears, offering her full tuition to Olympus Hills High’s prestigious music program, she sees an opportunity to catch the break she needs to make it as a singer. But upon moving into her estranged father’s mansion in California, and attending her glamorous new school, Daphne soon realizes she isn’t the only student in Olympus who doesn’t quite belong.Haden and Daphne—destined for each other—know nothing of the true stakes their fated courtship entails. As war between the gods brews, the teenagers’ lives collide. But Daphne won’t be wooed easily and when it seems their prophesied link could happen, Haden realizes something he never intended—he’s fallen in love. Now to save themselves, Haden and Daphne must rewrite their destinies. But as their destinies change, so do the fates of both their worlds.Intriguing plot line. I look forward to the next one. less

Original take on Greek mythology- the romance wasn't annoying, even if Daphne was a few times
