review 1: Posted on Les Romantiques - Le forum du siteReviewed by FabiolaReview Copy from the PublisherA Madaris bride for Christmas is the 100th romance from the author. To mark the occasion, Brenda Jackson wanted to write about one of the members of the family with which her career began. This volume is the 19th of the series and sincerely, I won’t list all the other titles. LOL You should only know that two of my favourite novels by the author are part of that series: One special moment and Unfinished business. Unfortunately, not one of the volumes is translated in French. This story is also a Christmas romance with all the features necessary to the theme: family, friendship, a gentle story without much hassle and with very likable characters.I really liked this story. Because L... moreee Madaris and Carly Briggs are very endearing characters, who know what they want and act consequently. Because the other secondary characters are part of the Madaris family, they have an important role in the novel and most of all, they show the entire family is close whatever happens in others’ lives. Because Brenda Jackson introduces other secondary characters we’ve seen in other series, and very naturally. The reader can see she wants to create a bond between all her long series but how she brings this bond is so believable the reader doesn’t feel frustrated. So yes, we have a good listing of characters, but the author succeeds in avoiding the fatal trap: give elements about these characters’ own story to the point we forget our heroes, which is never the case. Brenda Jackson just makes the new readers want to discover her universe and her fans see again, even briefly, characters we like elsewhere. The sex scenes between our heroes are quite numerous and of very good quality. We believe in their love at first sight and we can’t wait to see them get together for ever. Brenda Jackson includes also a bad guy in her story as well as a twist which will surprise every reader, even the fans LOL.You’ll have understood I really liked this romance which is an ode to friendship, to love, in short everything that makes the spirit of Christmas and constitutes Brenda Jackson’s universe. A must read.
review 2: Normally, I'm a love it or hate it kinda girl. If you look at my reviews, I'm either a 5 star or a 1 star reviewer. But this book has me so torn. There are moments of it I absolutely adored, and moments that made me cringe. Let me tell you about both...First off, Im disappointed in the title. I understand that the premise of the book is that Lee will have his bride before he goes home for Christmas. But at the same time, the novel gives you the impression that it's about Christmas. And that's what I was looking for -- the mistletoe, presents, lights, all that -- and I got none of that. So I was a little bummed. On the other hand, the love story between Lee and Carly is really very sweet (and especially steamy at times!). The whole love at first sight aspect and the awakened passion they find for each other had me totally enraptured. You spend a good amount of time wanting them to finally admit that they love each other, and it is so satisfying when they do :)But, on the other hand, their romance seemed a little too "wrapped up in a bow" at times. Which, after researching the author, I guess is just the way her novels go. But to me, it was all so....easy. Carly just happened to get the job working at Lee's hotel. And he just happened to see her at the right moment. And it just happened to be her birthday. I mean, really? There had to be a better way of having them meet.Overall, the storyline was okay. Again, a little too cheesy and unreal, but I thought it was well-written and descriptive enough to give me an idea of who these characters are. I think that there will be people who either really love this book or really hate it. For me...I'm stuck right in the middle. less
