review 1: I like this book because it has a good story (I gave it five stars). It keeps you interested, and is exciting. It has a very nice ending. Shadow is a black lab that barks a lot at night. He is loyal to Saint, he always comes back to him and keeps him company. Saint loves music, he plays clarinet for tourists. He is nice and smart. He is nice to Shadow (he feeds him and helps him survive the hurricane).
review 2: A Katrina story from the perspective of a young boy who has a family with the means to evacuate, but circumstances get in the way. New Orleans shines through the eyes of Saint. ... moreusicians mentor newcomers, where Saint is so completely at home. This makes us feel Katrina's sting all the more keenly when she strikes, once again in the book's pages. Saint is a likeable character, but New Orleans--she's the star. less
