review 1: You know when the mc is a teen with CF, it's going to be upsetting, even if it has the best of all possible outcomes. I couldn't help but root for Brianna, and her travail with living/dying with CF, all the while thinking of a family friend with CF, who not only got to finish college, but get married, and is now in her 30s, things that Brianna is sure that she won't be able to do. I don't recommend reading this one without a box of tissues on hand.I particularly appreciated the teacher-student relationship between Brianna and Mr. Eccles (completely appropriate and mutually supportive). I also appreciated the difficult relationships with friends and other classmates, as well as family. It rang so true, that I found myself wondering if Brendan's first wife, Kirsten, had ... moredied of CF, and Halpin was writing from experience. It turns out that she died from breast cancer, but terminal illness is what it is, and I imagine that he was able to draw from the experience anyways, even if it was a different disease.
review 2: Brianna has Cystic Fibrosis, and is a senior is High School. Her friend and mentor has just died, and she is trying to come to terms with that. She also is trying to live her life, find meaning, and be happy about a future that she may not have. This book is about hope, and it is very well done. Not for young teens, and I wish that the poor girl had a chance to know about the Savior. Sheesh. Anyway, it's worth reading, but not a profound life changer. Quick read. less
