review 1: Fiendish is a gothic paranormal mystery with a great spooky cover that will definitely attract teen readers. Sadly, many of them may be disappointed. Fiendish has an eerie opening. "Hold still and sleep. Wait till someone comes for you." Ten years later, a neighbor finds Clementine buried in the cellar of her burned down family home. Neither Clementine nor Fisher can explain how Fisher knew she was there. Once Clementine emerges strange things start happening in the hollow, home to the witches and fiends of the community. Clementine's few surviving witch family members fear her reappearance will cause another violent uprising against the witch community like the one that wiped out her family and left her trapped in the cellar. The myriad of strange events in the first thi... morerd of the novel are confusing not just for reader, but for Clementine. Is she the cause? No one will tell her what happened ten years earlier or why she was put in the cellar. Did her family die because of her? Why does she feel so connected to Fisher? Why can she see fiends from the hollow that no one else sees? What do they want from her? The rest of the novel moves at a quick pace with dark, suspenseful, but predictable events. Even after the violent crisis event is resolved, many of the questions remain unanswered. This probably means a sequel is coming, but I don't know if Fiendish is compelling enough to inspire teen readers to watch for it.
review 2: This book had a lot of potential. The idea and mythology around the book could have been fantastic. In the end, I was bored through most of it and I didn't care about the characters at all. I would probably have given this book a three star since I finished it fairly quickly, but I absolutely do not are about it. I don't love it and I don't hate it. I am indifferent. I think that is the worst thing to happen in the mind of an author's reader. So that is why it deserves two stars. I just don't care one iota about it. less

twisted but good. I knew Davenport was trouble, would've liked more about the tattoos.

3.5 stars--I liked it! A little dark, but not creepy, really liked the main character.
