review 1: So, I was a little upset with the change in Wonder Women's background. With the clay background she was the perfect Amazon made without the creation of a man, and I thought making Zeus her father, a god who rapped maidens and consistently cheated on his wife, would taken away the fact that she is a feminist icon. But who am I kidding? Wonder Woman will always be the most bad ass heroine off all times. She is strong, and can take down anything in her way, and there is no fan service in this comic because I feel women finally have a comic marketed towards them. Yes, some could argue that the fact that Hera is naked throughout the comic could be seen as fan service, but anyone who knows anything about Greek Lore knows that the gods liked to hang out naked to show off there pe... morerfect bodies. The story is good, but upon reflection I realized the book took Wonder Women, and threw her in the Game of Thrones universe. Wonder Women is now daughter of Zeus who is currently missing, and she has to protect her unborn siblings, both are possible heirs to the throne. Both Poseidon and Hades want the thrown (bothers fight over a throne, sound familiar?), and so does the Queen Hera (by the way Hera and Zeus are siblings, so you could say Game of Thrones took that from Greek Lore). The story is familiar, but fun to read. The reason why I always will love Wonder Women is the fact that the comics combined my favorite things, super heroes and Greek mythology.
review 2: I'm not a fan of the New 52 Wonder Woman. The revamp has negated everything that made her a uniquely original and powerful character. She is, almost literally, a female Hercules. Just another bastard child of Zeus... nothing truly important about her or to the world she resides in. (And I'm not even touching the inconsistencies in writing her across different books.)I fully acknowledge some of the character designs for the gods are fun new interpretation, but the art style is off putting. Please give me back the clay-born, all female created Diana who has a twin sister known as Donna without the kitschy art style. For now, DC has lost me completely. I've tried to read this a couple other books, but they don't have the same spark in them for me. less
