review 1: Read this on the plane ride to Korea and wow. I loved it. I love these comics that go out of the norm in terms of its storyline. The story is from the perspective of one of the joker's henchmen. I love this idea, because you get to see stuff that you never see. Even if it is somewhat trivial, but seeing joker getting a ride, sitting in a bar, doing all of these menial stuff just felt great. The comic is like a window for a part of the world we never get to see. It is also fun to anticipate how The Joker can turn a normal situation into something insane. So yeah, 5/5, really loved it. Also the art is amazing.
review 2: I was impressed with Joker...at first. There is a clear distinction within the book as it has two different art styles, one I absolutely love and
... more one I find just ok. While I wish the whole book could've been in the first art style I got by just fine with the other art style, it's not awful just not on par with the other style it has to compete with. Writing wise I was very intrigued by the idea of Joker but it didn't live up to the hype that its first pages seem to usher in. Seeing the story of a major criminal from the perspective of a thug seems really interesting to me. I would love to see that idea applied to heroes, villains, and even more minor characters. It adds an interesting viewpoint to the story as you see how normal, everyday people view someone like the Joker versus seeing how is arch nemesis views him which is arguably the same in every book. However, just because the idea is interesting doesn't mean it's necessarily successful. Certain parts of the story don't have the payoff I was hoping for and when all is said and done I felt the book promised more than it offered up. I enjoyed Joker but that's because certain parts were beautiful to look at and certain parts of the writing really excelled, but not all of it. The inconsistency is enough for me to drop it down to 3 stars, if that art ran through the book entirely and the last two-thirds of the writing matched the start of the book, I'd call it perfect. Sadly that just isn't the case. less

I love the Joker. Loved all versions of him from Early Batman comics to his darkest latest best. I even liked each of the the movie versions. Because the Joker can be so many things that each time is a different take and it all fits. So theoretically, this book should have been right up my alley. But from my ratings you can see I came out disappointed. Not because Batman hardly makes an appearance. Not because its art is simple and not memorable. Primarily because it leaves no lasting impression of the Joker. He is the high prince of Crime for god's sake. Either you finish the book thinking he is crazier than even or you come out of it thinking he is smart as hell. When neither results you can't help be disappointed. I still love the Joker though!

Now this is Joker story I can get behind! Told through the perspective of Johnny Frost (an outsider as much as us), Azzarello takes us through a day-in-the-life of recently released, broke, and outraged Joker as he hits up all of Gotham's villains. The Joker in this re-imagination isn't corny but just pure insanity with no discernible rhyme or reason. And the art was just so rich and gritty, really detailed in a way that wasn't necessarily flattering to those it portrayed, which in my opinion was just what the story was conveying.Such a great and dark story, with an incredibly ambiguous ending that hints at the lasting power of the Joker and Batman. Also I love LOVE silent Harley Quinn in all this, she doesn't care for no man!

Meh...could have been better. Not worth the hype.
