review 1: The story of two towns in a feud over whether the corporation in one is causing a cancer outbreak in another. Then the owner of the corporation's daughter is murdered and the main character of the book, Chris Hawk is brought in because his daughter is accused of the murder. This book took awhile to get moving but once it does, unraveling the mystery and exploring the interconnection between the characters makes this a difficult book to put down. Once you get to about page 160, you might as well plan on reading it through, non-stop, until the end. Half suspense and half mystery, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read.
review 2: I'm really partial to Minnesota crime writers like John Sandford so I always pick up one of their books when they come out. Sorry to s... moreay this one didn't meet expectations. It was average at best - formulaic and filled with obvious red herrings. The characters were one dimensional and unbelievable. Fortunately it was an audio book which I listened to while working out so it didn't numb my mind too much. I'll cross Freeman off my list of Minnesota crime writers. less
