review 1: Solid writing. A bit to negative throughout the entire book for my taste. It's hard to like the main characters when everything is always gloomy and it becomes predictable because in every circumstance where they are faced with opposition they end up losing. It's not til the very end of the book that they start using their skills to accomplish anything and by the time I got there I was already sorta tired of reading it.
review 2: Awesome book. I very much enjoyed this - Brian Staveley does a wonderful job of keeping your interest and yet he's very good about not wandering about on a tangent. My only criticism would be that the daughter's character development could be stronger, and that there should be more empathy built for the characters. As it is, they fe... moreel rather emotionally flat. However, he builds sufficient character depth that this is a very minor drawback on the story. less
