review 1: Press Release: Star Wars #1, arriving January 14, 2015, will kick off a new era of Star Wars comics — and StarWars.com has your first look!Set directly after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, the series (helmed by the all-star creative of team of writer Jason Aaron and artist John Cassaday) will be the flagship of Marvel’s new canonical line of comics. What actually happened following the destruction of Death Star? Soon, you’ll find out.***So not only is this book boring, but it's set to be retread a year later.
review 2: I've been a fan of Star Wars for as long as I can remember. I bought the toys. I memorized every line of dialogue in the Original Trilogy of movies. I could even find some redeeming value in the Prequel Trilogy. Not a lot,
... morebut some. In the early and mid 1990s, I read a ton of the Expanded Universe (EU) novels that were released. I've watched the TV specials and some of the newer Cartoon Network series. What I'm trying to say is, yeah, I'm pretty well versed in everything having to do with our favorite galaxy far, far away. This graphic novel (part one of six) is, by far, one of the greatest things I have read.Set shortly after the events of the very first movie (commonly referred to as Episode IV: A New Hope, but originally known as just Star Wars), the Rebellion is struggling. Sure, they just blew up the Death Star thanks to a ragtag crew of fighter pilots. But that was just the tip of the iceberg for the Empire. Yes, the Emperor is pissed about his 20-year investment being destroyed and his anger has been spilled over onto Darth Vader, but they are still very capable of inflicting horrific levels of terror against the Rebellion and any culture or planet that allies with them. Hence why the Rebellion is struggling. They have no money, dwindling supplies, and no home base. And they desperately need all three to make it work. The problem lies in that each world they visit to scout for a base, the Empire is right there with them. Relentlessly and not so coincidentally. In order to ferret out the mole in their presence, Mon Mothma turns to Leia Organa to create an elite crew of pilots whose identities and actions are known only to Leia in hopes they can find them a new home.If you're thinking this sounds a lot like Battlestar Galactica, you wouldn't be the only one. There were already myriad similarities between the two series. But this is basically the Galactica version of Star Wars and I LOVE IT! Ohmigod, the storytelling by Brian Wood is amazing. There is so much great emotion in this story and at the center of it all is Leia, being given a chance to truly kick some ass right from the starting gate. She is the star, bar none. Just take the politician Leia and give her the dogfighting capabilities of Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck. That's who she is in this. It's awesome. Why Brian Wood is not writing the scripts for Episodes VII-IX is beyond me.I can't wait to start volume two. less

Scene transitions are too rapid. Character dialog/personality not consistent with movies.

A bit shallow on story and characterization. Big on starship combat. Disappointing.
