review 1: The Hidden Child is another example of Camilla Lackberg's time shift thrillers where the action moves to and fro between past and present. In this case the roots of the solution lie in the Second World War.This is a very entertaining tale with a credible plot and excellent character development as those with whom we are familiar grow older and, in most cases wiser. Two new personnel appear; Paula a policewoman and Ernst a dog and both fit seamlessly into the story. Although Lackberg's novels are not quite as dark as some of her Nordic contemporaries, they are, nevertheless, very readable.David Lowther. Author of The Blue Pencil. (thebluepencil.co.uk)
review 2: Erica Falck finds a Nazi medal in a trunk in her attic. This medal starts Erica’s journey into disc
... moreovering her mother’s past. After she leaves it with a family friend who ends up getting murdered, Erica starts to research her mother’s past in connection with the murdered man. Patrik Hedstrom works for the police department and is Erica’s husband. He is on paternity leave but can’t help getting involved in the murder investigation. Erica and Patrik start to piece together the past and may bring to light something that happened 60 years earlier.I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were really well developed and had a lot of layers. I laughed, cried and was intrigued. Lackberg is a great writer. She knows how to describe a scene without overloading it with too much information. I felt like I learned a lot while I read this book but not just historically but also culturally about Sweden. I had no idea about some of the things that people deal with in other societies. It was truly eye opening. There was a lot of pregnancy issues described in this book but I felt like it was the cycle of life and death and Lackberg made it an important part of the story. If you like mysteries, historical fiction, Scandinavian suspense, and depictions of interesting locales, you'll love this book. I recommend the reader also try, The Boy in the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbol, the department Q novels by Jussi Adler Olsen and books by Henning Mankel.Jenny PaxsonReaders' Advisory LibrarianWebster Library less
