review 1: I read the Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg several years ago and quite liked it. I was therefore anticipating a good read when I started this one. Sadly I can't say the same for her latest effort. I feltthe author padded out a thin plot line with an even slimmer sub plot. The location of Gaskar Island as a scene where a lot of the mystery took place had promise, as did the shift back in time to the 1800's to another group of characters. I found it very frustrating though, to have the scene constantly shift to a different grouping of participants with no easy identification of who was saying what until you finished one or two sentences. Perhaps the text layout in my eReader contributed to this but the jumps were so frequent and the number of characters and location changes... more were so plentiful it was a major distraction. I'm talking at least a dozen different pairings and many changes per chapter.I still may have rated this book a 3 *** or even a 4 but another major flaw showed up. Ms Lackberg devotes pages and pages of musings by the female cast on the fondness they have for children. We get it.... motherly love for offspring is a powerful and universal thing. The problem is the repetitive descriptions of picking up babies, feedings and babies out in strollers doesn't add any new perspective and slows the story to a crawl. The author is obviously enthralled with the concept of maternal devotion but this shouldn't be indulged at the readers' expense. More plot and less gushing please.
review 2: Me ha gustado mucho. Camilla nos sigue demostrando lo bien que se le da hacer esto, libro tras libro. He tenido la impresión de que se ha repartido el misterio un poco regular, porque se pasa dos tercios del libro sin apenas ofrecer nuevos datos que permitan avanzar la investigación y, por tanto, se queda más estancado. La resolución final está muy bien, no obstante.Spoilers: Aunque parece un poco obvio lo que pasa con Madeleine, me falta una aclaración al final. Fin de spoilers. Es un fleco que se deja suelto. No puedo esperar a leer dentro de poco el último libro que me queda de ella, y que parece el último que ha publicado por el momento. less
