review 1: This is one of Lackberg's earlier novels, providing some background for events to come in future books. Detective Patrick Hedstrom is investigating a gruesome murder made to look like suicide and reconnects with his childhood love, Erica Falck, who found the body. As in most of Lackberg's books, there are dysfunctional families and troubled souls, as well as secrets from the past that haunt the characters. The writing and plot aren't as sophisticated as her more recent books, but you get a glimpse of how she's evolving and growing as a writer. It's probably best to start with this book and work your way forward, as the stories and characters continue. But each of them can stand alone, even though future books build on earlier ones. Steven Murray, who translated her bo... moreoks from Swedish to English, does a masterful job. Camilla Lackberg, along with Jo Nesbo, should be on your "must read" authors list for the coming year. They're both excellent!
review 2: الخوف الأزلي من نظرة المجتمع هو المتهم الرئيسي في هذه الرواية .حتى بعد مرور خمسٍ وعشرين سنة ، بظل هذا الهاجس يلاحق المجتمع الصغير في قرية ساحلية سويدية .."ماذا سيقول الجيران ؟ ماذا سيقول عنَّا الآخرون ؟"مما يؤدي لتدمير حياة أشخاص لعقود من الزمن ، وجرائم قتل وانتحار .كانت هذه رواية إسكندنافية نموذجية ، مواضيعها : " إعتداءات على الأطفال ، العنف ضد المرأة ، قصور القوانين ، أسرار قديمة و الكثير من الثلج .بعد عشر روايات تقريباً قرأتها في الأدب الإسكندينافي .. كان سهلاً تحديد سير الرواية وإلى أين ستنتهي ، والقاتل في هذه الرواية لم يكن مفاجئاً . الرواية مملة - بعضَ الشيء- والسبب الرئيسي هو طولها فهي أكثر من 500 صفحة وطريقة السرد مزعجة بعض الشيء خاصة مع تعدد الشخصيات المتورطة .الكاتبة واعدة في كتابة أدب الجريمة وأتمنى أن تكون الأجزاء الأخرى من السلسلة أفضل . less
