review 1: This is one of my favorite Carla Kelly books, even though it's one of her darker stories. Or perhaps I enjoy it so much because it's one of her darker stories. Ms. Kelly doesn't whitewash the horrors of war and the toll it takes on both the soldiers fighting in it and the civilians trying to live through it.The relationship between Polly and Hugh starts off slowly, but it steadily builds throughout the book, and by the end I just knew they would continue to be happy together, having already suffered through more trials and tribulations than most couples go through in a lifetime.
review 2: This was another novel that was a slight change to the previous two. Just like other trilogy novels that I read by Diane Gaston and Louise Allen, this last book surprised m
... moree a bit. This last sister had a chance to be part if the Napoleonic war. This meant it was of course very tragic for her but I'm glad she had Hugh to protect her each and every, step of the way. This was a very nice to read. Another book to add to the favourites. less

More references to sexual assault and threatened onscreen assault - more graphic than the last one.

One of the only Carla Kelly books that I didn't keep to read again

No me terminó de gustar porque la protagonista es un poco lela.

Very different story line for a romance.
