review 1: This is the first book I've ever read by Carole Matthews. I picked it up from a car boot sale and expected to find it... well, okay, I suppose. How wrong could I be? I loved it. Okay, so it's a really easy book to read. It doesn't stretch the brain cells or try to set the political world to rights but who cares? In my opinion, it's a great story, very well told. And although I had a pretty good idea of the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed the ups and downs that the characters went through to get there. Not for a minute did my interest wane and I loved the short, bite-size chapters which helped me pick the book up and put it down again at various moments of the day.A great read and not the last book I'll pick up by Carole Matthews.
review 2: This book started a little
... moreslowly for me, and I was very, very angry with Amy. It looked for me that she has nothing to say, couldn't stand for herself and just did what Will told her, although she didn't feel good with the whole situation, changing homes and getting a lot of animals. If you don't want million chickens, sheep or goats just say this, because you will be the one who must feed them and take care about them, doesn't matter what happens with your husband:)I felt very sorry for her as well after Will died, I'm sure it was very hard for her. I am just happy that Matthews didn't go into details about grieving and Amy was relatively strong but for once. The basolute highlight of this book was Hamish:))) Oh God:)) I am myself owner of a few dogs but when you have one Hamish, you don't need any pet more:)I liked the way Amy was developing to love the village, the nature, her new house and how she was coping with the situation, with children, neighbours and animals. I was short of shooting Hamish myslef, so I can really understand her:) It was obvious how the book is going to end, but anyway, it wasn't a problem at all and I really enjoyed the reading and the book very, very much. It was my first book by Carole Matthews but not the last one, that's for sure. less
