review 1: “With Love at Christmas”, by Carole Matthews. ISBN 987-0-7515-4548-7, published by Sphere in 2012.I bought this book for my wife for Christmas and now read it for the second time myself. I do like Christmas and enjoy our family party on the first Christmas day. We like to spend Christmas starting in the morning with unpacking our gifts and at the same time having a nice Christmas breakfast. Including special sandwiches, tea, coffee and so on. During the afternoon we all help in the kitchen to prepare the Christmas Dinner, which we like to keep simple. My wife however, does all the preparation and the decorations. Outside as well as inside the house and she does a great job each and every year.My wife told me that this book was really fun to read and it is!I’ve really... more enjoyed reading about Juliet and Rick, their children as well as her parents. Merak and Lisa are my favourites and Carole Matthews does write a good story. One small dissonance: What can go wrong does go wrong. Carole Matthews has the tendency to extend this to superlative degree. However this didn’t stop me from rating this book with 4 stars and reading it for the second time.
review 2: With Love at Christmas is a different sort of Christmas story. While it is full of holiday cheer, it also has some heavier content, delivering an authentic story. The characters are easy to relate to, especially Juliet. As a woman with adult children, aging parents, and a hectic life myself, it was easy to imagine how Juliet was feeling through her many trials and tribulations. Overall, this is a pretty realistic Christmas novel that sheds light on the love and true meaning through all of life's many imperfections. less
