review 1: The first Carole Matthews book I've read in a long time. I read it pretty quickly and was interested to find out what was going to happen, though it was rather predictable. I did find the beginning quite irritating as there were so many 'clues' dropped in to ensure that the reader really understood how wealthy the main characters were - so many stereotypes, so little time. This was a shame as it simply made the characters unlikable so it took a while to warm to them after this. I also felt that the pivotal event in the book would have had a far more devastating impact on Amy and as the book was supposed to take place over the course of about a year, things certainly moved (to my mind unrealistically) fast. As for Hamish - grrr, very annoying! I will DEFINITELY read m... moreore of Carole's books as I found it funny in parts and the story was interesting enough. However I didn't feel anything for any of the characters so it felt quite a superficial read.
review 2: I'm a big fan of Carole Matthews and I have most of her books on my shelves to prove it. She never lets me down when it comes to a good comedy romance and that's exactly what I want and expect from this author, especially, when I need it to put a smile on my face and brighten up my day. The star of this novel is 'Hamish' for me and if you love dogs then I'm sure you'll enjoy reading about what he gets up to. I thought that the sad bits of the book were handled with enough care so as not to bog down the story and make you get too weepie when you really want to relish in a pick-me-up kind of read instead. Overall, I would say that if your already intent on reading everything this author has ever written like me then you don't need me to tell you to buy her books. But if your new to this author's many titles then I can recommend that you start at the beginning and work your way through. You won't be disappointed if your anything like me. less
