review 1: I am trying to read and find new authors since I have read through all my favorites. Caroline Fyffe is another that I can now add to my list of writers. Sourdough Creek, one of her stand-alones and apparently one of her first novels, brings us the story of young and orphaned Cassie Angel, who is desperate to head to California to open a bakery so she can improve her life and that of her younger sister. Sam Ridgeway is a man who needs to get back something stolen from him, something that could change his future forever. Unfortunately, Cassie unknowingly has what he needs. As the two join forces to leave their small town and head west, both find that goals are not as important as people and family. This book was an enjoyable read. It doesn’t have characters that will “st... moreay with me” for a long time after I read, and certainly not forever. It was rather formulaic in its plot points and characterizations, but the plot is tightly woven and the characters jump from the page. Cassie’s desperation to better her life is understandable. Her long term goal is clear from the beginning, and her spunk is endearing. Sam, in typical hero fashion, wants one thing at the beginning, but as he sets aside his own desires and determines to woo Cassie, he ends up wanting something much more at the end. Cassie’s uncle, the villain in this case, is truly a wretch, and Fyffe’s portrayal of an ever-suffering Cassie willing to believe in the man rings true. Even the cat has a personality all its own. The middle does sag at one point about 1/3 of the way through the book, but the story then picks up again and pulls you all the way to the end. I was also a bit confused as to Cassie’s real age. I thought she was much younger than she must have actually been, which was a bit strange. Fyffe’s prose is well-done and enjoyable to read. All in all a great read for a weekend, and I have definitely added another author to my list!
review 2: Sourdough Creek by Caroline Fyffe is my kind of book! I love and truly enjoy a well-written sweet (clean) romance novel! From the beginning, the book just grabbed my attention and had me intrigued! I wanted, no I NEEDED to know why these two girls were dressing up as boys! Every time I thought I had this story figured out, it would take a different twist or turn! The characters were wonderful, and I enjoyed getting to know them and their strengths and weaknesses. You will be rooting for them to let go of their insecurities and fears. Add the adventure of mining gold and finding love and this novel will not disappoint! A great western historical romance, Sourdough Creek is sure to win your heart over! I am now fan and cannot wait to get my hands on another Caroline Fyffe novel!I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. less

Sourdough Creek is a wonderfully written historical fiction adventure. It is an action packed adventure that is set during the Gold Fever. Caroline, writes very real characters that will hook you from the very first page. Sam is a flawed hero. He is a gentleman cowboy who starts proving his character right from the Start when he saves Cassie from a beating that she is receiving from a neighbour because of her Uncle Avrid's thieving. Cassie is a brave, hard working and stubborn woman who I wanted to throttle for most of the book. We have all known women like Cassie. She wants love so badly that she excuses bad behaviour from her uncle in the name of family. Although she has seen first-hand, first with her father and then with her Uncle Avrid that not all men treat women with kindness and respect, she doesn't seem to give Sam credit for the kindness and respect that he showered on her, her sister and their pet cat from their first meeting. I enjoyed watching the blinders finally fall off after God sent her a very powerful sign. Ashes is the brave cat that does seem to have nine lives Uncle Arvid is a real piece of work. He is a thieving, abusive layabout that wouldn't lift a finger or spend a penny to help his nieces but expected them to slave for his benefit. I am looking forward to a sequel even if it is years away because these characters had me from the first page. Very slow and at times tedious! This is clean. Interesting twists at times. The romance is good.
