review 1: It is refreshing to see a dystopian novel with some finality. I'm sure the author thought about developing the story into a series, but I'm glad she didnt. It's been nice for me, having some finality in the end of the story. Granted, some people may find it to be a " cliff hanger" ending, but its one that leaves the reader with hope, and for me, a pretty fulfilling little jaunt through our messed up and futuristic world. I loved the way the book was written. It was very--honest, in my opinion. The characters were well developed and the plot was too. I was very contented with the way the book progressed and found the ending to be very fitting. Overall, a really great quick read with many complexities to get you thinking.
review 2: All Good Children was an OK ... morebook. The author really pointed out what was important, and the character's desires and emotions were always known. However because the book spanned a three month period, we were not always with Max, which with the time lapse makes us a little detached. Also in the focusing of the issues for the protagonist, some fundamental information about their society is missing. Any thing that was given to us was fully explained, but how the world became that way is unclear as Max would not worry about such things. Although this information may be desire there is no reasonable way to provide this information. The process and decision of "Zombyfying" the children was entire left up to adults, but this information would have helped us understand the society. All Good Children has a very different take on a post-apocalyptic world, focusing on what our society may become instead of what happens to the ground beneath our feet. It also includes Canada in its post-apocalyptical world! I am curious if there will be a sequel as I see an interesting future ahead. less
