review 1: I'm of two minds about this book. I really like the continuing characters, and I love Madrun's letters to Mum, but I found it a slog to get through. I thought Tom's incident with Lucinda really didn't seem true to his character, though there was a kind of explanation at the end. The family interconnections were hard to keep straight and half an hour after finishing it I had to think for a minute to remember "whodunnit". He sets things up for "Nine Ladies Dancing" as this one concludes; I hope it holds my attention better than this one did.
review 2: I liked revisiting Vicar Tom Christmas as he spends a weekend away from his religious duties to join a group sky-diving to raise money for his church. When he discovers a body at the centre of the labyrinth at ... morethe stately home where the sky-diving event is being staged, he finds himself involved in a murder investigation, to his great dismay. I liked the characters in this third Father Christmas story, and as their histories and relationships were revealed during the weekend's murder investigation it became clear that first impressions were often flawed. The action was fairly plodding, but the interesting characters and setting made up for the slow pace. All in all, a very satisfactory read. less
