Father Christmas Mystery
review 1: I read this book as part of the book club reading. I wondered why a Christmas book was chosen for the Januuary read!! For the most part I enjoyed this book. Like some others have said, there were times when I didnt want to put it down and there were times that it was a bit of an effort to read it. I found I had to re-read so many paragraphs and pages. It was very wordy at times and hard to follow. It was like the book was trying too hard. There were things left unanswered at the end of thestory, I am guessing they will be in future books in the series. The thought the letters would have come into play at the end, but they just ended up giving the reader an insight into the village goings on! I enjoyed the village settings, the plot twists and story lines and I would most ... morelikely read other books in this series!
review 2: When Father Tom Christmas takes a position in Thornford Regis, he's hoping for a bucolic existence after a tragedy left him a widow and nine-year old Miranda without a mother. However, when the Japanese drummers, who are in town for May Fayre, find one drum ripped, there's a body inside. Cue a town full of suspects and an author who can make us start to care about all of them. The British small village mystery, so popular from Agatha Christie seems to be alive and well. So much so, that a couple of secondary characters even refer to their present murder and missing vicar investigation as very much like a Christie who done it. All in all, a great beginning to a new-to-me series, two more already in print! less
