review 1: My review:I love that this author can tackle heavy subject matter, in this case spousal abuse, and still write a story that makes you laugh and go aww.I loved this book. I love the characters and their quirky personalities. But most of all I loved the justice that was served in the end and also that the big bad shifter got his girl!Synopsis:Who needs claws when you’ve got a baseball bat? Lauren Evans sure as heck doesn’t.Human Lauren has a protective streak a mile wide and one immediate goal in life—get her best friend out of an abusive household. If that involves a little bat-based redecorating, so be it. Unfortunately—or fortunately—a certain sexy-as-hell cop breaks up the fight before she has a chance to really get going. Grayslake police officer Van Abrams ... moreis too hot for his own good, and his handcuffs make all those wonderful places tingle. Too bad he, you know, arrested her and stuff. But then he becomes overbearing, demanding, and commanding. Suddenly Lauren finds herself in his arms, in his bed, and mated to his werebear butt. What’s up with that?Werebear Enforcer Van Abrams doesn’t want anything to do with humans. He’s got reasons, and they’re damn good ones. He doesn’t need to explain himself to anyone, especially the curvaceous, luscious, gorgeous, human Lauren. Then, his bear decides Lauren is his mate and Van’s anti-human feelings abandon him. He still hasn’t figured out if that’s a good thing. Of course, when danger rolls in from Boyne Falls and joins with a powerful prick from Grayslake, Van realizes that, human or not, Lauren is his.Van hopes he can kill their enemies and still make it home for dinner.
review 2: When a bear meets his mate, he is supposed to charm her, love her, and claim her. However when Bear shifter and pack Enforcer Van Abrams meets his mate, he is thrown for a loop. For a man who dislikes human, his mate is certainly that and hauling her off to jail in cuffs is not the positive start they should have.Lauren would do anything to protect her best friend from her abusive husband. Wielding a bat and giving him a taste of his own medicine seems fitting, only she had not planned to be spending time in jail. When Van sends her mixed messages Lauren doesn't know what to think, on one hand he is sweet and tender to her, on the other he is gruff and growly. Of course she didn't know that shifters exist and this whole mating thing is not something one settles into easily, but Lauren never stands down to a challenge and she has become quite fond of Van now she will need to decide if she wants to take the next step or face the alternative.I was a bit mixed on this one, I liked it overall it is different then Celia Kyle's other shifter stories. This one is a bit more darker and the shifters are not out there like in her other series, there is a human side and a shifter side. Van I liked but you can sense he is definitely out of his comfort zone with Lauren. Entertaining story but has a more dramatic feel to it. less
