review 1: This book started off harmless enough. A grumpy old man telling us youngsters how we should and should not act, according to his generation and his views from corporate America. Then it got to its preaching point and completely lost me. Don't do this. Don't say that. Dress up all the time. You kids these days are selfish. A grammar lesson in the middle of a book, really? Spare me, sir. I got to tip #15 out of I'm not sure how many before I said that's quite enough. Don't waste your time unless you enjoy being preached to. Again, I can take constructive criticism and tips, but the author even admits that he's essentially set in his ways. You can get the Cliff Notes version of these "tips" from your job's upper management. It's what they're thinking anyway, but you can save ... moreyourself the time and the eye rolling.
review 2: Much of this is advice I would pass along, or have attempted to pass along to younger adults in attempts to help them avoid the same pitfalls I encountered along the way. If read at the right time in life, and heeded, this could be a helpful guide. My impression of the book, at my advanced curmudgeonly age is that reads as a bit of a self-satisfied look back at life. I never really grew to trust the advice giver but agreed with most of the advice. I wish I had been told these things, and listened, when I was much younger. As it is, there really isn't anything here to hurt anyone if they tried the advice and found it didn't work for them. On the other hand, they could reap a life full of contentment. less
