review 1: I love the Joe Pitt case files and the Hank Thompson trilogy, but the last couple of books by Huston have felt a little 'sterile". Skinner is still a good book with the typical bad ass (think Hitman, from the stealth games by the same name) but at times I just felt I was not enjoying the book. it does have some good ideas but doesn't seem to convey them as well as required, stretching the plot later in the book. Still worth downloading for a holiday read if you are a Huston fan.
review 2: How I love Charlie Huston, but this book just didn't grab me like his other ones have. It might be because it was an advanced copy with some errors along the way, or it might just have been the subject matter. Also, he actually uses quotation marks in this. I don't remember if
... more his more recent novels have included those, but I remember his early ones did not. I think I am pining for those noirish Henry Thompson and Joe Pitt books. His standalone books have been fine, but not as great--I enjoy his characters who have more of an arc over several books, as opposed to the interesting but short-lived characters from books like this. Regardless, he still has a very unique style; I am glad he has retained that over the years. less

Made it through a quarter of the book. It was torture. Couldn't finish.
