review 1: It was a nice, quiet, easy read but that's about it. I found the characters transparent in the sense that other than their basic looks, you don't really get a sense of who they are. That goes for the entire sphere surrounding them. You get a vague sense of it being there, but you don't really see it. I will say Gus has a little more character than Tible, but I found I could picture Maelgwn's personality much more clearly than the MC's. I'm looking forward to his story.
review 2: Though this one had very little in the way of danger in it, I found that I really enjoyed the story. I had to laugh at the quirky little surprise the mated pair got to experience.Gus is a rhino shifter who is at the tail end of his recovery from the brutal torture and testing he ... moreunderwent when he was captured by that secret scientific group. He has a nice job working construction and is now able to move out of Declan's home to his own apartment in Stoney Ridge. Not long afterwards, Gus' extra sense of smell picks up an elusive scent at his work sight that indicates that each night someone is moving about the old church his is renovating. His new friends from the Stoney Ridge pack decide to help him track down the culprit. And isn't Gus surprised to discover that his nightly visitor is his mate and that's only one of the surprises. Caspian, a character from an earlier book is able to tell him that his mate is a gargoyle.I found the addition of Tible the gargoyle and the strong character interaction between Tible and Gus along with the return of several favorites from the series make the plot a much stronger one. The gargoyle stuff was interesting though I would have enjoyed learning how Tible's egg came to be lost there in the wilderness for his adoptive parents to find. I look forward to learning more especially since the other gargoyle in the story scented his mate who is part of the Stoney Ridge characters. The romance between Gus and Tible was really good. That twist to their situation once they are mated had me chuckling at how quirky it was.This was a strong and satisfying addition to the series and I look forward to the next installment. less
