review 1: 2.5 to 3 stars I think....The book was cute and very on par with all the books in the series. I really wish The author would release the books on amazon at the same time she releases on the publisher site. it takes like an extra week to get it on Amazon and I prefer that. This book was about Diego and his mate Zachary the Zebra (LOL) Zachary is totally unaware that he is a shifter and actually is disabled due to a leg muscle problem. Now Zachary is led to Believe that his disability was due to an accident involving a knife and a seizure but after realizing he doesn't have epilepsy and it's really his body trying to shift we never found out what actually happened to his leg. Bc something obviously did and it wasn't healed after his first shift bc it had been to long but... more what's the point of including a story point if it's not going to be explained? I mean Zach talked about his leg and pain and his cane etc repeatedly in the book so telling us the injury story was bs but just saying Zach didn't have the heart to ask his mom what really happened is bs. Is totally half assed and really annoying. It super me when authors do stuff like that. If the author didn't want to explain it then it shouldn't have been included in the book at all! ! Also why do all the shifters have to be mated with such young guys all the time. I mean what 300 year old guy wants a 22 year old for forever? I'd REALLY REALLY LOVE to see a shifter mated with someone in their 40's or 50's. I mean I'd imagine they would have more in common and more to talk about than a 22 year old that still lives at home with his mother. . Just Saying...
review 2: Well. I liked there was a zebra, that's pretty cool. I just felt the story was a bit more empty than some of the others. I feel like a lot of glossed over. There wasn't a lot of depth. Which isn't really a surprise, I guess. I've encountered this issue a number of times in this series and the related ones. I think part of the issue is, I had no idea who Zach was as a character/person. I knew it was a zebra shifter, younger than Diego, gay, had a limp due to childhood injury and really, that's about it. That wasn't really enough for me to feel invested in his character and so the connection was lost. The plot was equally flimsy. I don't know. I still read these books because I've read so many of them already, I'm basically invested. But if I were just starting out? These wouldn't be enough to draw me in. I hope they get a bit better! A bit more depth to the characters, a bit more emotion, a bit more plot and I think things would be back on track. less
