review 1: This is evidently the first of this very popular German author's work to be translated into English. The premise sounded good and the setting was England, not Germany, which also appealed to me. But I was very disappointed. I don't know if it was the translation that needed editing or the original text, but I found it overwritten and not as suspenseful as I thought it would be. I grasped who the perpetrator of the second crime was pretty quickly; the first crime was never satisfactorily resolved. The big secret - what happened to the "other child" - was tragic but somehow anti-climactic by the time you reached that part of the book. I finished it because I wanted to see if things were resolved, but will not read any more of this author.
review 2: This boo
... morek started our really promising, but the suspense started to wane after a while. There are two really violent murders that occur and the story centers around there solving. Everyone is a suspect. That becomes grating after a while because you know it is not going to be someone obvious. And, it isn't. The "twist" is weak and seems unlikely. Overall, while I think the author makes some great characters and a chilling back story, I thought it fumbled in the middle. It took long to get to the end. It kept me interested on the drive to work, but it could have been so much more. less

decent story but terribly predictable and annoying at times with its foreshadowing.

I didn't like the outcome. It did not wrap all the loose ends. : - (

Could do with some editing, but there is a good story line here.
