review 1: So, this was a cute novella that suffered from a lack of world building and character development. We have a young woman who is having a hard time in her life and she finds a bookstore on her regular route that she had never noticed before. She gets a book, reads it, and next thing you know, she's part of the story.Now, I don't have a problem with the premise. But, there are a bunch of supporting characters who she knows about because they were in the book she read. However, we didn't read the book and lack all of that information. Also, there is little development of her character or of the hero's. Plus the changes she experiences are pretty much unexplained, leaving me with a lot of questions. And I felt the relationship between H/h grew too fast to believe.It was cute w... moreith action and a couple of sex scenes. And the main characters were likable. There were interesting powers and supporting characters who seemed like they'd be interesting to learn about. So, I would be tempted to read a sequel, but was underwhelmed with this installment.
review 2: Loni loved the smell and feel of holding a book in her hands, opening herself up to a new world and living in the fantasy world that an author had brought to the pages. Finding herself in front of a small book store filled with old books and oddities, she is very happy to get the personal service of the owner when she walks out with a book she cannot wait to dive into. At home, wearing the “Fictional Character” teeshirt she bought along with the book, Loni is absorbed with the magical world and the life of the hero Alec. If she could only find a man like that for her own she wouldn’t have to hide behind a book. Waking the next day she is not prepared to be accosted by a flame throwing sorcerer who bore a certain likeness to the villain in the book she read the night before. But there was no way she was sleeping when she was swept up into the arms of the handsome stranger….. a stranger that she had read about within the pages of the book she had just devoured. Alec knew the rule. You don’t get involved with humans. They never stay and there are too many lives at stake that they cannot trust to put faith in a human they don’t know. Staying away from Loni was more than a temptation for Alec as he brought her home after introducing her to the team he was sworn to protect as they battled the paranorms that were under the control of an unknown drug. Dawson wanted her but she was not a paranorm, she was human and unless Selena knew something more than he did (which was entirely possible with that woman) than he was going to do his job and protect her and nothing more. The instant chemistry between the two was too hard to ignore and the connection they both felt was beyond what either could have imagined but there was more than just the human problem hanging between them. Someone was killing paranorms and it was up to Alec and his team to find out what or who was behind it before it was too late. There was no time to deal with a relationship that could never be. Wow….. just….. wow. This book was a bibliophiles wet dream. Who doesn’t read romantic fiction and dream that they could be the heroine of the story. Loni is like the rest of us avid readers who fall asleep with book in hand only to dream up the perfect man who is a sexy, intelligent, heroic godlike alpha only she gets to live it. The book is one intense ride from the second she opens the book until the final realization that there is a way that worlds can collide. The spontaneous connection they share and continue to develop as they deal with the threat as well as their emotions and physical desire for each other made this book a DNPDUTLP for me….. do not put down until the last page. I really hope there is more to this world!!! less
