review 1: I'm always choosing crime books and I've started to realise that the majority of them are just predictable and I find them less enjoyable now. However, The Night Stalker was quite different from the usual crime books and I actually found myself reading this book all the time! You're instantly drawn in on the first page as it talks about two doctors doing forensics on a female body, the first chapter is quick, but makes you want to read more and more! The actual book is pretty dark and twisted, but if you're into horror books then this is most definitely for you and you should really have a read! The crime scenes and the victim's deaths are very brutal but very imaginative and prompted me to buy more books by Chris Carter as I was really drawn in by the crime scenes he had tho... moreught of which are quite different from usual crime scenes in other books, this was probably because he was a criminal psychologist which is talked about on the back of the book!I rate this book very high and highly recommend it!
review 2: I gave up. I couldn't stomach his high-school-esque writing style. SO many cliche phrases. Example: after this detective finishes reviewing a heinous murder, "...(he) vows to make (the killer) pay." There are MANY more and I couldn't get past page 51. Also, each chapter ends with the cliche "makes you want to read on" line or comment that--for me, anyway--smacks of Creative Writing 101, community college level. And, reading the author's credentials/background, [and looking at his picture] you can tell he sees himself as Hunter, the main character. At any rate, just didn't thrill me enough to make me want to read on. less

Brutal as always, it reads itself. You just have to read until you finish it.
