review 1: I think I have found the best way to read this series - read omnibus volumes 1 and 2, then have a little break. It makes this volume come across much more strongly.I think the main problem with this volume (and volume 4) is that the plot isn't quite as interesting as Sakura having to find the cards. Yes Eriol is an interesting character but even his evil little looks aren't enough to make Sakura changing the cards from running of Clow Reeds power to her own as interesting as finding them in the first place. The drawings are as cute as ever, I think Sakura especially gets cuter(the sheep outfit is totally adorable). The subplot with Yue/Yukito and Sakuras brother is nice - I think it is really subtly done (much more so than Sakura and Tomoyo). I could have done without the r... moreehash of Rika and Terada though (even if in this book it comes off more as a crush) - I still find their relationship to be really inappropriate.Overall, the stories compiled here are cute and they are definitely enjoyable.
review 2: Cardcaptor Sakura is considered by many to be the epitome of the magical girls genre. Now, being a "magical girls" story, I wasn't really all that interested in reading it. I mean, won't it be dripping with saccharine? I don't like forcing myself to read a story just because it's considered groundbreaking. But, then again, Cardcaptor Sakura was written by CLAMP, and I loved Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles and xxxHolic, so maybe I would love this series as well. The verdict: Cardcaptor Sakura is a very good story.Sakura is a fourth grade girl who discovers a strange book in her father's library. When she opens it, she meets the guardian of the book. The book was created to store a magical set of cards, which cards escaped while the guardian was asleep. Sakura must now collect all the cards. It may sound like a simple enough plot, but the execution and different variants thrown in make for a fun adventure as we follow Sakura and her exploits to collect the cards. I am collecting the omnibus releases by Dark Horse, and the books are gorgeous. Each omnibus contains three volumes of the original release (600 pages) and several pages in color. The first two omnibus releases contain the first half of the series (books 1 through 6) and the last two omnibus releases contain the second half of the series - Master of the Clow (books 7 through 12). The final omnibus release is not available yet, but I am anxiously awaiting its release so I can read the conclusion of the story. Highly recommended. less
