review 1: Like other Cussler books and many of the best seller thrillers, I rate the book on simple enjoyment, as mind candy, a Quickread. I actually listen to the books like this rather than read them page by page, that way I can go faster, double time on the voice. Scott Brick's voice does well at twice the pace and I get to rush from steamy Argentinian jungle to freezing Antartic coast as the crew of the Oregon search for a NASA device, a lost Chinese ship and an oil drilling outfit. The plot zips along and in passing the reader gets the usual dose of Cussler's love of weaponry, machinery, boats, ships, anything marine really. He must have an incredibly diligent research crew. This is one of the most enjoyable of his many books that I've read so far.
review 2: I have
... morebeen listening to all the Clive Cussler books I could get my hands on via Overdrive and have really enjoyed them all. Some of the author's villains are over the top and the dialogue can be a little cheesy at times, but his books are always action packed and full of interesting historical and political tidbits (be they fact or fiction). The plots are thick and deep and the resolutions fantastic. I have really enjoyed reading this author but I'm nearing the end of what's available for download from my public library so I'm going to have to find a new author! I'm kinda surprised I've lasted this long with one author. I guess that says something! less
