review 1: I love Connie Willis' short stories. This collection is uniformly excellent, which isn't surprising when you consider that they're all award-winning stories. Even if you aren't a fan of science fiction, I highly recommend these. Willis' writing style is uncommonly clear and compelling. In addition, her introduction provides insight into the writers who influenced her. This would be a great compilation to use in an English class.
review 2: This isn't really a review of the book. It is however about what I call Reader's Block. You're reading book after book and suddenly one book becomes a real struggle to read you don't want to pick it up and when you do you only manage a few pages. This no judgement of the book or indeed any book. I was reading Freda Warringto... moren's Dracula The Undead couldn't finish it gave up. A couple months later I tried again and this time read it in one sitting. This also happened with other books. Yes Reader's block hit with this book. Which was a shame because I like Connie Willis I loved her Blackout/All Clear books. I enjoyed the stories but that dreaded block hit and it much longer to read than usual. So I'll wait and maybe give it another go sometime in the future. less
