review 1: A cute story that was about as long as it reasonably could be. I loved that Jonas admitted (at least to himself) that the whole reason he wanted a wife is so he could have sex regularly without fear of disease! Such pragmatism - I'm not sure if it should be rewarded or not. In any event, Milan takes the heroine and has her legitimately loathe Jonas for very good, compelling reasons and yet also manages to show you how they are the perfect match for each other. The novella felt a but cramped with trying to shoe-horn in Jonas' father's mental and physical issues but otherwise the perfect length for a quick and enjoyable read.
review 2: Well, I feel cheated. There are three or four mentions Dr Grantham's "jokes about gonorrhea" and not one actual gonorrhea joke. T
... morehis, my friends is what we call an informed ability.Okay, I'm kidding. But it was a little too often repeated for something that didn't exist.Courtney Milan is amazingly good at structure, so her novellas are as good as her full-length novels. I was glad she decided on the short form for this couple, because there probably isn't enough material for more. Lydia Charingford, Minnie's best friend, and the handsome Dr Jonas Grantham play out their hinted-at romance. The story is very heavily character-driven, so technically, not a lot happens. Except quite sweet romance, of course. There were a few little things throughout that just felt askew. There are jumps in timeline in the beginning that make it hard to know where exactly we are in time when the more linear events begin. And Lydia's ignorance of Grantham's feelings for her seems a little bit contrived sometimes.Still, it is nice to have this small thread in the series tied up, and as I said before, the romance is quite sweet. less
