review 1: This book was ok but lacked any real action. It is a story crossing over five generations, the eldest being 112 years old. Set in The northern Sacramento valley olive tree groves, it make you think the key to longevity is in using olive oil. Well, the genes of the first born daughter of each generation goes way back to the Aborigines of Australia. Again, not too much excitement to keep the interest peeked.
review 2: The Roots of the Olive Tree had a large cast of characters, some with an interesting story line. Unfortunately, none of them was developed enough to make me care very much. The relationship between an adult daughter and her mother, recently released from prison where she has been since the daughter was 4--that could be a good story! Another woma
... moren (trying to be very vague here so as not to reveal a "spoiler") and the secret behind her marriage could have also been a full novel on its own. Other characters were so boring and vague that I can't even remember anything to say about them (I finished the book last night!).This one is just not worth the time spent reading it! less

Started out well, but fell far short with character development. Was disappointed.
