review 1: An Episode in the Life of a Landscape Painter was better than this book. - First I thought I would stick to this stand, but soon realized that César Aira has no interest in pursuing a single theme, he is a multi-disciplinary writer. And this sci-fi-literary account of Aira takes shortcuts in narrating imaginary things and beings, at the same time being useful to aspiring writers.I won't recommend this book to those who hate simple experiments in story, but to those who have interest in style and form rather than in serious story line up.After reading this I had to say to myself: Aira, I want to climb another branch again. Your branches are thin as spider webs, but are indeed as stout as a steel.
review 2: When I read Aira the first thing that comes to my mind
... moreis Postmodernism. I think he can proudly claim that his writings don't have a peculiar genre or style. The writing in this piece is very raw and organic. He lets his mind loose and when he puts it on paper it retains the skill with which he talks about on any topic. These topics can range from lost pirate treasures, cloning a genius, love, et cetera. less

Certainly one of the strangest books I've ever read! Aira's imagination is without parallel.
